Lesson 1

In this lesson, you will learn to...

  • Identify the parts of a computer

  • Handle your chromebook responsibly

  • Display proper posture while working on a computer

The monitor illuminates the computer screen which is the visual part of your Chromebook.

The keyboard is used to enter words and numbers.

The mouse pad or touch pad is used to make selections by tapping or double tapping. External mice can be used with Chromebooks if that is your preference.

The camera is used to capture pictures and video footage.

Next to the camera, you will find an internal microphone. This can record your voice.

On the side of your computer, you will find ports. You can plug in many different things into your Chromebook, like memory cards, headphones, or speakers.

You need to use your power cord to charge the Chromebook battery.

Make sure you plug in your computer at the end of the day, so it is fully charged every morning.

It is important to take care of your Chromebook. One of the easiest ways to do this is by properly handling your computer. Carry it by the handle to prevent dropping it.

Or carry it carefully with two hands. Dropping a Chromebook can cause major damage to the device. We must do all we can to prevent it from happening!

It is also important for your health to practice good posture while working on your computer. Avoid slouching. Instead, sit up straight, with your shoulders down away from your ears.  Position your lower back against your chair. Your screen should be slightly below your eye level.

This will keep you comfortable and safe while working at your computer.

If you want to play with your camera, visit webcamera.io to capture a video recording. Below, you will find a short tutorial on how to do this.

Create

For your create assignment, you will draw a picture of a computer. Include and label all the parts that you learned about from our lesson. Make sure to draw lines from your label to the computer part in your picture, like in the picture below.

Add a person sitting with good posture, OR be ready to show me an example of good posture when you turn your drawing into me. To make sure you include everything, use the checklist below.

Turn your drawing into me before moving on to Lesson 2.
