ANGELA AYRIT

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled."

                  -Plutarch

I began my life journey in Iowa. Both my parents are educators and spent their early lives living and working in Iowa. Soon they longed for something more, and their adventurous spirits lead them to an overseas teaching fair. After careful thought, they both signed contracts to teach in Saipan, and off I went as a nine-year-old tag-along.

I've lived in many places: Iowa, Saipan, Guam, Germany, and Arizona. For now, I'm happy to have settled into my own little slice of the world. I live, teach, and frolic in Iowa with my husband, our baby boy, and our pets. I enjoy hiking, painting, reading, and indulging in Fraiser marathons.

Coming up with adjectives to describe myself is a challenge. Afterall, I possess a myriad of qualities. I would say I am an eager, reflective, careful, giving, reliable, creative, and honest person. I am a person that likes routine, but will also push myself out of my comfort zone in order to learn and grow. I enjoy the thrill of traveling, but love coming home after a week away.

After graduating from the University of Iowa in the winter of 2011, I began teaching in a Head Start Preschool classroom. The following fall, I accepted a fifth grade teaching position in a K-12 school. One year later, my husband and I were searching for an innovative district that had openings for us both. We soon found what we were looking for at WACO Community School District. I have been teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th graders for the past three years in the subjects of math, reading, writing, and social studies.

My story and my qualities have led me to this point; getting my Master's in Educational Technology.  I love engaging in conversation with fellow artists and educators about their process, philosophy, struggles, and successes. I look forward to a lifetime of teaching, learning, and creating.

Family

Here is my little family at Niagara Falls. We love to make memories together. My husband and I are a great team. We have been together for more than ten years. We have an amazing little boy, who keeps us on our toes!
